The exhibition ‘Bells with civil uses in Catalonia: towards a modern conception of time’ explains the evolution of the use of bells in the Catalan territory.

Bells were used in China 2,500 years ago as well as by the Romans, and have attained their present status thanks to the Benedictine order of monks, which decided to make them their tool for communicating with the outside world in the sixth and seventh centuries. Bells in towers arrived in Catalonia with the Carolingian Empire, which brought its technology for monumental foundry.

The exhibition, available in Catalan and in English, is organised by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Catalonia and its curator is Daniel Vilarrubias. The Medieval Association of Bagà has contributed by borrowing some bells and other elements.

Free entrance until February 28, 2020. The opening hours are from Monday to Thursday from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm and on Friday from 10 am to 3 pm. The exhibition will be closed during the weekends and públic holidays.
